Daniel and the Lions' Den
Once there lived a man in Babylon, named Daniel, an exile from Judah. He prayed to his God every day. God gave Daniel a special gift- he could understand all visions and dreams.
King Darius had 120 governors, supervised by three presidents. Daniel was one of the presidents. The King found Daniel so trustworthy that he planned to put Daniel in charge of the whole kingdom.
The other governors were angry after they heard this, so they started plotting against Daniel. But Daniel was blameless, for he was loyal to both God and the King. Finally they decided to find charges against him in his worship to his God.
The governors encouraged the King to make a law that no one should worship any other god except the king for thirty days; and anyone who does so will be thrown into the lion's den. But Daniel continued to pray to his God three times a day.
At sundown Daniel was thrown in the lions' den. "I hope your God will save you from the lions," called Darius from above. That evening, the King could not sleep, for he was worried about Daniel. He got up very early the next morning, and rushed to the lions' den.
"Daniel, has your God delivered you?" Darius cried anxiously. "My God sent His angels to shut the mouths of the lions," replied Daniel. Darius was joyous and ordered that the accusers be thrown to the lions. Then the King decreed that Daniel's God was the only true living God.
