Noah's Ark

Long ago, God saw that people had become wicked. He was very sad. "I am sorry that I ever made them," He said. "I will destroy every living creature on earth." There was only one man, Noah, who obeyed God and shunned evil.

God spoke to Noah: " I'll flood the earth to destroy everything. You must build an ark according to my word, and tell people that anyone who repents may get in your ark to live." Noah did exactly as God told him.

When the ark was finished, Noah took his family, eight in all, on board. And God sent animals of every kind, a male and a female, onto the ark. " In seven days, I shall send rain, " God told Noah. The door was shut. Only Noah and his family went in, and the animals.

After seven days, clouds gathered, and the rain came down. It lasted for forty days until the highest mountain was covered by water. Every living creature, men and cattle, birds and insects, all died. But Noah and those in the ark were kept safe and sound.

The rain stopped. Noah sent a raven out, and then a dove. The dove came back with an olive branch. Noah sent it out again, and this time it did not return. Then Noah knew that the water had all gone.

As soon as he came out of the ark, Noah built an altar, thanking God for saving them from the flood. God arranged a rainbow in the sky to appear after the rain, just to remind us that He will never destroy the whole earth with water again.
